Over 600 staff, community supporters and families joined Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Hospital at the walk, which raised money for the Bruce and Andrea Yablon Cancer Health and Wellness Program at Northern Westchester Hospital.
Over 34 teams participated on behalf of Northern Westchester Hospital and over 20 team-driven fundraisers were held prior.
The Bruce and Andrea Yablon Cancer Health and Wellness Program provides cancer patients and survivors with free access to wellness services including a health coach, registered dietitian, a customized physical activity plan, integrative medicine, as well as individual and group counseling.
In 2016, the program provided over 4,700 complimentary health and wellness visits.
"I was diagnosed with breast cancer and treated at Northern Westchester Hospital in 2012," said Dawn Barrett, a member of the hospital's Cancer Patient Advisory Council and a keynote speaker at Sunday’s event. "This event is near and dear to my heart because I’m passionate about the cancer programs at Northern Westchester Hospital and how they helped me get through a difficult time in my life.
The two-mile family walk day included a band, radio broadcast, food trucks, a showcase tent with community partner tables, and a photo booth and kids zone. Hospital clinicians hosted a wellness fair – providing screening, demos, healthy eating tips, aromatherapy, hand massages, body mass index and blood pressure testing and more.
